My poor white sheets. Someone keeps buying my kids markers and my bed sheets keep getting tortured.
The last episode was quite traumatic: my sheets and mattress were stained every color of the rainbow. I honestly didn’t think any of it would come out and reluctantly accepted that I would likely have ugly linen until the kids left for college.
A few days later the FedEx guy shows up.
“I didn’t buy anything, I swear!”
J-F clearly doesn’t believe me as I open up the box. A bottle of Purex plus Oxi. A FULL SIZE bottle. And then I remember: I’d signed up to review the product. I whooped and hollered all the way to the laundry room.
I was so excited I forgot to take pictures before throwing the sheets in the wash, but I did snag a few of my rainbow mattress. 85 minutes later I stared, incredulous, at my pristine (if slightly faded from time) linen. I was in full-on laundry mode for 3 days straight before I ran out.
Peed-on blankets and clothes (daughter had a few night-time accidents), spaghetti-stained baby clothes, grass stains, wine stains, what-the-hell-is-this stains… it ALL came out.
This is the part where I’m supposed to announce this super awesome giveaway of 4 coupons for FREE product. Except… I don’t have those coupons anymore.
It was one of those weeks where everything hits at once – not only the usual bills but we ran out of EVERYTHING. There was no more meat in the freezer. No more formula, diapers in 2 different sizes, wipes, toilet paper, cleaning products…. Our grocery bill was almost 400$ that week. So when we also ran out of laundry soap I grabbed the envelope with the coupons – not bothering to take out the one I needed – and rushed off to the store.
Miracle in aisle 3
As I’m scavenging through the aisle looking for the right bottle of detergent a woman is arguing with her mom about the price of laundry soap. She’s clearly looking for a brand name, and her mom is clearly looking for the best deal.
I consider for a moment giving her a coupon but I hesitate; who am I to step in the middle of an argument? I grab a bottle and I just had this feeling that I couldn’t shake.
“If you’re looking for the best deal, I have a few coupons here for full size free Purex plus Oxi – I’m not going to do 200 loads of laundry in the next few days… so… here you go!”
I hand her the coupons and her eyes welled up with tears. “Thank you, she says, My 4 week old daughter is going in for heart surgery on Friday and we’re staying at Roger’s house (a home away from home on CHEO’s grounds). You have no idea what this means to us…”
And there you have it. No giveaway, no coupons… but on that Wednesday night I changed a little piece of that woman’s world. I prayed for her and her daughter. I prayed for her family and gave thanks for my many blessings.
And then I remembered I gave away all my contest coupons. And it was all worth it!
